What Is A Small Group?

Small groups are the key for you to connect with others at Tempe Nazarene Church. A small group is 8 to 15 people who meet regularly in a relaxed non-threatening environment for fellowship, support, discussion, and spiritual growth. We all study and discuss a series of lessons together in the Fall and Spring.

The small group is as much “church” as the larger convening of believers. Jesus’ ministry was in small groups as well as large. All of the “one another” commands in Scripture (love one another; pray for one another; be kind to one another) can only be truly obeyed and experienced in a small group.

TNC’s small groups are all different. There are men’s groups, women’s groups, groups for those with young children, college and career groups, and still others getting ready to start up. There’s one or more that fit you.

Our groups focus on a wide variety of functions:

  • Tasks
  • Caring and support
  • Study
  • Building relationships
  • Prayer
  • Accountability

When Do They Meet?

We have Small Group Sessions in the Fall and Spring. There are about 10 small groups of TNC people that meet throughout the week in various places and at various times. Their leaders/coordinators are all volunteers—people who love to help others grow as disciples of Christ.

Why Should I Join?

It’s easy to get lost in a crowd—to feel lonely even though you may be surrounded by worshipers on a given Sunday. That’s why TNC has a small groups ministry. It’s a great fun way to connect with others, building lasting relationships with people who provide support in times of crisis. You can grow faster spiritually in a caring, interactive group where you can feel free to ask your real questions and sense the support of the group.

Small groups can help you to “grow up” as a Christian, including helping you discover and learn to use your spiritual gifts.

How Do I Join?

Please fill out and submit the form below in August or December. If you’d rather, you can pick up a Small Group Ministry form at the Welcome Center at church on Sundays when they become available, fill it in, and return it to the Welcome Center or place it in the offering plate.

Please prayerfully consider opening your home to a Small Group. You can have someone else lead the discussions or the prayer. Our lessons are on DVD so you will need a working DVD player.
